Restructuring Plan
United Township High School
- Organization
- Complete the Administrative Restructuring
- an administrative team will be created to collaboratively work toward
improving the learning environment and student achievement. The addition of the Assistant
Principal for Curriculum and Assessment will support curricular
initiatives.
- Create a School-Wide School Improvement
Committee – a committee of teachers and administrators will
study UTHS data, best practices and future school improvement efforts.
- Develop a Freshman Smaller Learning Community
– the freshman academy will help students effectively transition
from their eighth grade feeder school into the high school.
The
changes in organization will positively impact AYP by creating structures for
collaborative decision making, cooperative learning and decisions based on
student level, as well as school-wide data.
- Systems
- Institute data folders for all freshman
students - Freshman academy teachers will maintain individual student
data folders and serve as teacher advocates for those students.
- Refine the process for optimal student
placement in classes
- Develop a plan to create a reading culture
– A committee will be assembled to research reading culture and
suggest ways to support a school-wide reading initiative. The addition of a second reading
specialist also supports this initiative.
- Create an Intervention Continuum –
A plan will be created to guide teachers through appropriate
interventions if students are not making adequate progress.
- Develop a new process for teacher evaluation
– The administrative team will develop a staff evaluation rotation,
standardized process and utilize three minute walk-throughs.
- Institute changes in math curriculum and
intervention – Math teachers will evaluate current curriculum,
add more Work Keys content into the curriculum and develop the Math IA
and Math IB support curriculum.
A catch-up math course for incoming ninth graders will also be
developed.
- Expand and refine the current formative and
summative system of assessment
- Study Professional Development Schools (PDS)
– During the 2007-2008 school year, a planning committee will study
the PDS model and explore the possibility of partnering with Western
Illinois University to make UTHS a PDS site.
- Reevaluate and revise the current curriculum
– Using the Surveys of Enacted Curriculum and current curriculum
maps and guides, the curriculum will be revised to better meet the needs
of the UTHS students.
- Research and Implement Dual Credit/Dual
enrollment classes
The
changes in systems will positively impact AYP by creating structures to
effectively monitor the curriculum, instructional practices, professional
development and the progress of individual students. All changes will focus on improving achievement in mathematics
and reading among all students with specific attention to students with
disabilities, economically disadvantaged students and the Hispanic and African
American subgroups.
